Street art / social commentary images taken on a walk around Lisbon.

and one more thing…
greetings and salutations

This illustration perplexes me a bit, though. Is it a hanging eye-ball, head?

dreams….

This broke my heart. A lot.

A ubiquitous image, I know.
The Portuguese sailing ship sits on almost all street lamps. I wish I knew the symbolism of the flower which adorns the top.

coffee at Copenhagen Coffee Lab

I stopped for an afternoon Americano. Their coffee is really good.

In the evening, back at the flat, I cooked dinner.

Bacalhau (salted cod) is well loved in Portugal and is on most local restaurant menus. Our neighbough downstairs cooks some version of it almost every night, it seems. I know this because the smell wafts up to this floor.

It came to Guyana (my home country) via the Portuguese and has remained an integral part of our cuisine. We call it what it is – sal’fish (salt-fish).

I saw a can of bacalhau at the supermarket and although I don’t love sal’fish, I bought it. When I opened it, I saw that it was bacalhau and chickpeas combined. I’ve never seen that before but – hey – when in Portugal …..

After browning slices of potato in a pan, I sautéed onions, garlic and tomatoes with whatever spices I could find in the spice drawer. I added the bacalhau to the pan and cooked it on low heat for a while then added the potato slices on top. I let that cook for about 20 minutes and we had it with white rice. It wasn’t fishy or too salty so – all in all – not too bad.
