It’s now already June. This year is blowing by and catching a day, hoping to let it last longer than a few moments seems to be an impossibility.
Yesterday, I wrote my May’s Moments on the back of my May month calendar page. It’s now something I’ve come to enjoy. As I looked back at May, I realized I had fewer pleasurable things to write down, and more disgruntlements.
I definitely need to change that!
While I’m on the topic of looking back, the image on June’s calendar page is all about memories.

Each frog has a different story. The large dark stone frog was from my mom – something she picked up on a trip somewhere. I think this was the frog that started the collection.
The frog with the stick in its mouth I got in a little curio shop while I was spending the day with my friend Michael. If you rub the stick on the bumps on its back, it sounds like the frog is croaking.
The frog with the outstretched leg I bought in Florence. Its front right leg and back left leg are both broken when I accidentally dropped it against a bookshelf. I was so sad when it happened but now I like how ‘experienced’ he looks (yes, he’s a ‘he’).
The frog earrings are a random Betsy Johnson purchase. Don’t ask me what I was thinking.

The other green glass frog was a gift from my friend Irina, who gave her (yes, she’s a ‘her’) to me for no reason, and who at the time, also had no idea that I have a frog collection. Sometimes the Universe just speaks.
I never set out to collect frogs. I’m not even sure how it started. Like the character Anne in Netflix’s The Four Seasons, who once got a strawberry tchotchke and ended up being inundated with strawberry gifts, I was given a frog once and now there tiny frogs all over my place. But I do like frogs so I don’t mind.
I wonder when the time comes for me to downsize, what I’ll do with all these memories.
Side note: I noticed that on The Four Season’s title there are tiny hidden symbols in each season’s graphics pinpointing certain plot highlights. I love things like that. Hidden in plain sight.
It’s playful which forcing you to think back to previous episodes— the creators’ way of saying ‘if you know, you know’ .

You’ll notice that the strawberry makes an appearance.

Thank you for prose and for the illustrations of your collection. The point of when we downsize struck me as a time in our life march when we move forward without physically collecting.. hope your side glances will always hearken respectful possession as curio; even if simply conscious assemblage.
