To be honest I’m not sure what I think about this story, I only know the subtle impressions/emotions/questions the story evokes for me. I see the black field guide with the blue pen and the pink pen. Sometimes blue is used to convey masculinity, and pink  used to convey femininity. I wonder why is the blue pen tucked within the notebook while the pink pen is left sitting out on top. Then there are the dolls, one masculine and one feminine.  I wonder why was she only changed and altered to look “more feminine” and he was not alerted at all to appear”more masculine”, or appealing?  Then there is the wink he gives her.  Next I wonder if he moved closer to her, or she moved closer to him, or they moved closer to each other?  Then I notice that he is facing forward and her body is turned toward his. For some reason I found this story a bit unsettling.  It’s amazing how such a short story and a few selected drawings can evoke so many thoughts!

At first glance a still life of two people, two pens, a single shadow as silhouette… the book, the page marked, the other pen resting on a closed book offers insight and complexity to ponder… thank you for sharing
