japan – day 2 (tokyo)

Today started like this.

The bed is low to the ground and is right up against the window. I wake up to a ghostly silhouette of the trees outside and a rose-coloured sky.

I figure I’d make coffee in the room, then do yoga.

But my attempt doesn’t quite hit the spot, so steps have to be taken.

The hotel serves some of the smoothest, most delicious coffee I’ve had in a really long time.

We walk to nearby Yoyogi Park.

gingko leaves are everywhere

Many of the trees have been wrapped like this, but I’m not sure why. The wrapping on this grand old pine has a special detail that’s so lovely and so typically Japanese.

Lunch is at this *tiny* udon place. No seating inside – just room for standing; two seats and a tiny table outside.

Using the machine by the door, we punch the button (with tiny picture and even tinier description) of the food we want, tap a card, then hand the tiny receipt to the cook.

Wanting to keep our afternoon tradition of a coffee and a lil something, we walked to Rec Coffee. They serve us coffee and their last slice of pear tart. And I can see why it was all gone! So good!

a glow similar to Van Gogh’s Night Cafe

On the way back from our early evening coffee, little restaurants all over are turning on their lights. Warm and beckoning.

And we make our way back to our hotel in Shibuya.

See you tomorrow 🙂
