Yesterday felt like a not ordinary day. Not an extraordinary day but not ordinary.
I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to do this but I finally bit the bullet and got a card reader from Square. Now you might wonder what took me so long, after all I have a shop and a card reader would just make it that much easier to collect payment from people in person.
Honestly? I don’t have an answer for you . I’ve always been one of the last to board the late train, I guess.
In many ways, I’m my worst enemy. I obfuscate things for myself and it always ends up such a hassle. When there are easier, less painful ways to go about things, I always choose the hard route. Over and over.
Again, don’t ask me why.
I tell myself that it’s because I grew up in a dictatorship and to me, life is not meant to be easy. But I’m pretty sure it’s just me.
So the card reader came a few days ago and I would have happily kept putting off the setup. Connecting bank accounts and verifying identity over and over. Just ugh! But today I made myself do it. The setup was effortless just as all the people on YouTube said it would be. Buyers can now dip the chip or tap and pay. (Square’s cool catch phrases, not mine.) Apparently, this little reader isn’t the only way for payment to be made. Cards can now be tapped on my phone — and voila. Payment made!
I don’t know why but this small thing made me unbelievably happy. It finally feels like I have a shop. A 21st century shop . 🙂
