waiting

There’s a lot I could tell you about this trip back to Japan. The never ending flight, for instance, or the silent dual for a shared armrest on the plane, dreaming of checking in and finally having a hot shower — or just a good cup of coffee for that matter…but I won’t get into those details.

I will, instead, describe the B-line I make for the closest konbini (convenience store) for this onigiri (rice ball). Initially, I visit a 7-Eleven but they only stock the 7-Eleven brand onigiri — not my favourite. So back up the street I go to the ol’ faithful, Family Mart.

If you’re thinking that I’m crazy or you’re pulling an ‘ew’ face, it’s probably because you haven’t tried these bad boys.

Everyone has their favourite filling — pickled plum, spicy mustard greens, tuna and mayo, grilled salmon, cod roe — the list goes on. They’re so very good. So satisfying.

With three small movements (following the 1-2-3 steps on the packaging), the year-long wait will be over and I’ll be nom-nom-nomming my way into happiness.
